Najla Abrougui, a member of the ISIE, reported today that 17 candidacy files for the 2024 presidential election have been presented to the High Commission.
She indicated in a statement to National Radio that all the legal conditions required for the candidacy will be reviewed by the Council of the Authority, such as age, Tunisian nationality, number of sponsorships, enjoyment of civil rights and policies, financial security and criminal record.
She likewise confirmed the existence of 236 published cases related to fraudulent sponsorships, noting that “the sponsorships were falsified and that purchases and sales took place”, as she said.
Abrougui emphasised that the Commission concluded the prevention of manipulation and the protection of the electoral process against manipulation and fraud and the distribution of cash gifts to buy sponsorships and votes and influence the will of Tunisian voters.
It should be mentioned that the day before yesterday, Tuesday August 6, 2024, around six o’clock in the evening, the door for candidates for the presidential election, scheduled for October 6, was closed, thus concluding the stage of submission of files in to participate in this electoral right, which began on July 29.
It is anticipated that the Authority will announce the list of definitively selected candidates after the expiry of the appeal deadlines, no later than Tuesday September 3.
