The Secretary-General of the health workers’ union at the local hospital in Bouhajla, Kairouan Governorate, Fawzi Samara, has confirmed that medical tests indicated the elderly man who passed away last week in the Bouhajla delegation had contracted rabies after being bitten by an infected dog.
The man was buried on Wednesday, and medical services promptly vaccinated his family and close contacts following a thorough examination.
The deceased was a resident of a neighbouring municipality of Bouhajla in Kairouan Governorate. He was bitten by a dog while in the Nabeul region.
