Tunisia – Kairouan: Death of several cows from infectious nodular skin disease

Today, Monday, December 23, 2024, several farmers in the Hammam region of the Kairouan South delegation voiced their dissatisfaction with the appearance of nodular contagious skin disease in cows, which caused the death of some cows, requiring the need to intensify vaccination campaigns.

The head of the Animal Production Department at the Kairouan Regional Agricultural Development Commission, Naziha El Gharsalaoui, confirmed the death of 4 cows due to nodular skin disease in the Kairouan region, registering two confirmed cases and five other suspected cases, awaiting confirmation by carrying out tests.

Al-Gharsalaoui added that vaccination operations are taking place normally in different municipalities, remarking that an intensive campaign is currently underway in the areas of Hammam, Khadraa and Zaafarana of the southern Kairouan delegation, after the finding of an outbreak of the disease, where medical teams have been reinforced by private volunteer doctors.

Al-Gharsalaoui revealed that the cattle herd in the Kairouan region has more than 20 thousand heads, of which more than 13 thousand are vaccinated, and that vaccination operations are continuing.
