President of the Republic, Kais Saied, held a meeting at Carthage Palace with the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Sihem Boughdiri Nemssia, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Kamel Madouri. The meeting focused on a critical decision aimed at raising financial aid granted to poor families in Tunisia.
During this meeting, it was decided to increase the monthly subsidy for poor families from 180 dinars to 240 dinars, beginning in July 2024. This measure will profit around 310,000 people who receive a minimum pension.
President Kais Saied emphasised that this increase was necessitated by current conditions, but also underscored the necessity for long-term structural reform based on self-sufficiency, a fair tax policy and a security system. just social.
President Kais Saied insisted on the urgent need to definitively break with past practices. He called for a full and equitable reform of the tax and social security system, which must be based on the country’s internal resources.
The President also stressed the need to treat workers fairly, eliminating dehumanizing systems such as excessive subcontracting in the public and private sectors.
During the meeting, Saied also addressed the problem of fixed-term contracts which do not guarantee justice or stability for workers. He insisted on the need to find urgent solutions for precarious workers, whose working conditions are often inhumane. The President called for the establishment of legislation that prevents the exploitation of workers and ensures their rights.
