Tunisia-Kais Saied insists on revision of article 96

President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, met Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Palace of Carthage with the prime minister Ahmed Hachani. During this meeting, the Head of State examined recent government work and several draft laws and decrees that will be debated at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers.

President Kaïs Saïed underscored the significance of designing legislative texts that are part of a coherent and harmonized framework, marking a break with the past. Among the draft laws noted is the revision of Article 96 of the Penal Code. The president emphasised that this review must seek to find a balance between protecting public finances and avoiding the misuse of this article to hinder the normal functioning of public services.

The president also affirmed that there will be no tolerance for those who aim to disrupt the functioning of public services or who do not respect their legal obligations.
