President of the Republic, Kais Saied, made an unannounced visit to the governorate of Kairouan on the evening of Wednesday, October 30, 2024, where he went directly to the Aghlabid basins, amid intense security reinforcements.
It should be remarked that this historic monument of the Aghlabid basins is in a state of neglect and marginalization. The President of the Republic declared, at the end of his visit in February 2021 to the city of Menzil Mhiri in the governorate of Kairouan: “If the Aghlabids were alive, they would have built new basins, and we are still preparing studies”, regarding the disruption of several projects in the region, including the repair of the basins.
