Tunisia – Kebili: Arrest warrant against rapper based on decree 54

Farah Montasser, head of the branch of the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights in Kebili, confirmed that the general prosecutor’s office at the region’s court of first instance issued yesterday an arrest warrant for rapper Ghassan Aoun Allah and the technician Nassim Naili against the backdrop of “phrases contained in a song he published, which were deemed to be “targeting security districts”.

He added, during his speech today, on private radio, that Decree 54 was invoked to charge “the usage of information and communication networks and systems and the attempt and dissemination of information, false data and rumours aimed at undermining public security and national defence and sowing terror among the population.

Montassar reported that the song was understood and read by security forces as incitements and calls to burn security districts, revealing that the public prosecutor acted on its own.

The attorney confirmed that a hearing is planned for next Wednesday, before the annexe chamber of the Kebili First Instance court to examine the case.
