Tunisia – Lamta: Man Kills His Mother for Refusing to Pay for His Drugs

On Monday, February 3, 2025, the body of a woman was found under the staircase of her home in Lamta, a locality in the Ksar Helal delegation within the Monastir governorate. Suspicion quickly fell on one of her sons, with whom she had an ongoing dispute over drug-related issues.

Civil protection officers alerted the National Security District in Ksar Helal, and security forces arrived at the scene. A forensic doctor, along with the public prosecutor, examined the body.

The forensic examination indicated a head injury, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. According to Farid Ben Jaha, spokesperson for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia, the police questioned the victim’s two sons (born in 1995 and 1996) and searched their rooms. They found bloodstains on the clothing of one of them, along with scratches and bite marks on his body.

Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to arguing with his mother over money to buy drugs.

Several neighbours confirmed that the victim had frequently complained about her son’s behaviour.

Authorities have opened an investigation, and the body has been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
