Tunisia-Lower water level in Sousse dams: Farmers issue distress call

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, president of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries in Hassen Latif said the decline in the water level in the dams has seriously impacted farmers in the region. The decline is largely due to a lack of rain, Latif said, calling on the state to intervene to compensate farmers for the damage they sustained.

80% of the rains are wasted, he added, emphasising the significance of creating mountain lakes and river barriers to feed the water table which has become salty due to the shortage of rain.
