Echaâb secretary general Zouheir Maghzaoui revealed, Friday, June 24, 2022, to Attessia TV that the draft Constitution was not finalized at the last meeting of the National Consultative Commission for the New Republic, stressing that no party had been consulted for the final version offered to the President of the Republic by Dean Sadok Belaid.
Zouheir Maghzaoui affirmed that his party has presented its proposals in the various fields, adding that during the last meeting, the coordinating president of the commission, Sadok Belaid was satisfied to read the articles of the project without providing the final version to the participants since ‘it was not ready, but also to avoid leaks. “Nevertheless, the decree was clear, the draft constitution had to be adopted by the participants, something that was not accomplished,” confirms Zouheir Maghzaoui.
Returning to the referendum planned for July 25, 2022, the secretary-general of the Echaâb movement, considers that it is required to hold an early presidential election in the event of the adoption of the new constitution. “The President of the Republic was elected in accordance with the provisions of the 2014 Constitution, as were the MPs. The deputies have left and will go to new legislation, it should be the same for the President of the Republic ”. Zouheir Maghzaoui adds that the electoral environment is currently challenging and that the organization of the referendum will be laborious taking into account the obstacles and unfavourable conditions.
