The spokesman for the High Independent Authority for the elections, Mohamed Tlili Mansri, revealed that 30 suspicions of electoral crimes had been recorded, of which 15 were referred to the public prosecutor.
Mansri clarified that suspicions concern pages of social media sites, which include the dissemination and publication of false news, public slander and the allocation of false information.
Concerning media surveillance during the electoral campaign, Mansri stated that the three surveillance cells affiliated with the electoral commission have not noted major breaches or serious violations requiring the public prosecutor, emphasising compliance with the rules of coverage media during the electoral campaign.
Mansri has confirmed that the electoral campaign takes place at a slow pace, remarking that 63 electoral activities were registered by the three candidates for the presidential election.
He explained that the number of electoral activities varied among the candidates, confirming that some led 40 activities, while others were satisfied with a single activity, which was a press conference of the team campaign of the detained candidate, Ayachi Zammel.
Mansri likewise confirmed that there had been 12 violations during the electoral campaign in various regions of the Republic, in particular the organization of an unauthorized activity or demonstration, the usage of the flag and the slogan of The Republic, or the use of foreign media, specifying that these were not serious violations which require a return to the public prosecutor.
About the status of candidate Zammel, Mansri confirmed that according to the electoral process, Zammel will continue the race and that his status was and is still a candidate in the presidential elections.
