The border crossing of Ras Jedir is observing military and security reinforcements all along the border strip, with the progress of forces of the “Libyan National Army” led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar towards the border, at a distance of 15 kilometres from the Tunisian territory, to take control of the border crossing on the Libyan side, reports the TAP agency.
This mobilisation of Haftar’s troops towards the western zone of Libya entails the intensification of the monitoring of the Tunisian borders and vigilance in the forecast of various possible scenarios, especially with the rise of the Libyan conflict to control the border crossing, due to its socio-economic and political importance, said Mustapha Abdelkabir, an expert in Libyan affairs and president of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights (OTDH).
He insisted on the need to coordinate with the Libyan parties to ensure the return of Tunisians stranded in Libya, whose continuous flow has so far reached 500 people.
The president of the OTDH foresees a massive return of Tunisians, especially with the deterioration of the security situation in Libya and the implementation of the general lockdown and isolation of several Libyan cities, as part of prevention against COVID-19.
