The National Guard Spokesman, Brigadier General Houssemeddine Jebabli, affirmed today, Thursday, September 5, 2024, that more than 30,000 individuals from sub-Saharan countries were stopped from surreptitiously crossing the Tunisian land border during the last eight months of this year.
He noted that the National Guard’s efforts continue to fight human trafficking networks and apprehend smugglers.
Jebabli underscored that the number of people attempting to infiltrate Tunisian territory or cross the maritime borders has begun to decrease compared to previous years thanks to a strategy developed for this purpose.
He explained that since the cancellation of visas for some African countries, many of those who enter Tunisia to study, seek treatment or travelling have exceeded their legal stay, and after a certain time, it is confirmed that they coordinate with smugglers to surreptitiously cross the maritime borders to the European space.
