According to the bulletin from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) on the balance sheet of “payments in figures in Tunisia” for 2023, a total of 25.27 million checks were issued by the end of 2023, amounting to 123.9 billion dinars, marking a 4.6% increase.
In 2023, there was a small decline of 0.7% in the number of checks issued compared to the third quarter of 2022, while the entire quantity represented by these checks increased by 3.6%.
Checks accounted for 38% of the number of telecleared payment methods employed, and in terms of the total amount, they represented 54% of telecleared payments.
It’s significant to remark that the value of rejected checks amounted to 2.84% of the total value of checks issued. In terms of quantity, rejected checks comprised 1.65% of the total checks issued, equivalent to 412.5 thousand checks.
