Tunisia-Moussi files complaint over refusal to authenticate takfirist statements by lawyer for union of Muslim Scholars

The president of the Free Destourien Party (PDL), Abir Moussi, lodged a complaint on Monday with the first vice-president of the Court of First Instance of Tunis 1, accompanied by a number of lawyers as well as the president of the sector of the ‘National Order of Lawyers in Tunis, following the refusal of the judge in charge of the case of the International Union of Muslim Scholars to authenticate the “takfirist statements” addressed against them by the union’s lawyer, the TAP reported.

In a video posted on her Facebook page, Moussi said the lawyer who defended the  Union of Muslim Scholars openly called them disbelievers and “Islamophobic.”

She explained that she brought this incident to the attention of the judge immediately in the courtroom and filed a complaint with the Tunisian National Bar Association. The TAP agency was unable to obtain details from the Tunis 1 Court of First Instance.

Abir Moussi said in early September that she had filed an emergency complaint to suspend the activities of the Union of Muslim scholars in Tunisia and its “suspicious” activities at the University of Zitouna.
