In an exclusive interview with French newspaper “lepoint” in his prison at Mornaguia presidential nominee, Nabil Karoui asserted that the next battle of the second qualifying round of the 2019 early presidential elections will be a critical battle opposing an Islamic-conservative axis represented by Mr Kaïs Saïed and Ennahdha versus a modernist axis socio-liberal represented by Karoui and his party Heart of Tunisia.
Karoui added that his plan had always been a global project capable of providing the amplitude to reform and efficiently reconstruct the country.
He said “If tomorrow Mr Saïed wins without having a necessary majority in the Parliament, what program can he properly implement?“
He further accused Youssef Chahed of intentionally trying to set him behind bars, in an deliberate attempt to eliminate him from the presidential race, he says.
He concluded by saying “The Islamists of Ennahda will arrange everything to detain me behind bars until October 6th.He continued “We are in a surreal situation where the people currently in power believe they can succeed by keeping me behind bars.“
