Tunisia – Nafti discusses with his Norwegian counterpart the promotion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, met today, Thursday, at the end of his tour of several Nordic countries, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Espen Barth Eide. The meeting focused on the status and prospects of the long-standing and distinguished friendship between the two countries since 1958, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests.
On this occasion, the Minister stressed the importance of intensifying consultations and high-level visits between officials of the two countries and optimizing preparations for upcoming bilateral events. He also emphasized deepening the economic partnership and strengthening cooperation opportunities in sectors where Norway has internationally recognized expertise, such as academia, agriculture, fish farming, energy transition, environmental protection, scientific research, and the blue economy.
Regarding developments in the Middle East, he expressed Tunisia’s firm position regarding the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and its rejection of the brutal aggression against the Palestinian people. He praised Norway’s forward-looking position in supporting the Palestinian cause and recognizing the Palestinian state.
For his part, the Norwegian minister expressed his desire to further develop the distinguished relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, including coordination on several issues related to peacekeeping in Africa within the framework of UN institutions, the development of development financing mechanisms, and mutual support for Tunisian and Norwegian candidacies for various international positions. He highlighted Tunisia’s role in supporting security, stability, and overall development on several regional and international issues of common interest, noting the President’s initiative to strengthen multilateral diplomatic action in various fields by 2025, in anticipation of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
