Tunisia – Nafti tours Scandinavian countries to promote environmental diplomacy

Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti described the environmental issue, linked to climate change, as crucial and vital for the future of the world and the interdependence between the environment, sustainable development, and life in general.

The minister announced, during a press briefing on the sidelines of a symposium organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Environment and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on strengthening environmental and climate diplomacy, that he would begin a tour today of several Scandinavian countries in Northern Europe, which are also committed to protecting the planet from environmental impacts and ensuring the safety of current and future populations.

This tour is part of the Tunisian government’s efforts to convert public debt into investments in the environmental sector to combat climate change and mitigate its risks. In this context, the Minister highlighted the National Environmental Transition Strategy, which aims to improve our world and our climate, while preserving our daily lives and those of future generations. He emphasized the importance of this strategy for the development of Tunisia’s economic, trade, and cultural relations and for the conduct of bilateral negotiations at the regional and international levels. Nafti also highlighted the national efforts made over the years to address certain effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, marine pollution, and the rapid and alarming disappearance of certain animal species.
