A delegation from the Swedish group Autoliv, a global leader in the manufacturing of automotive steering wheels and road safety systems, announced during a meeting with the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ms. Fatma Thabet Chiboub, on Friday, December 5, at the ministry’s headquarters, the launch of a new plant equipped with the most advanced Industry 4.0 technologies.
The facility is expected to begin production soon, making it the first and only plant of its kind in Africa specializing in the manufacturing of car steering wheels using clean energy and magnesium as the primary material, serving as a model for a “Green Factory.”
It is worth noting that the Swedish group Autoliv operates in 28 countries with 64 production sites, providing more than 56,000 jobs and generating revenue exceeding $900 million. The group produces around 7 million steering wheels each year, including 4 million manufactured in Tunisia and fully dedicated to European markets.
Autoliv is established in Tunisia through two production sites located in El Fahs and Ennadhour, in the governorate of Zaghouan, employing more than 4,500 people.
The meeting also provided Hatem Chebchoub, director of the Tunisian subsidiary, the opportunity to present an overview of the company’s operations in Tunisia, the performance achieved in recent years, as well as its short-term investment plans, particularly the expansion of its activities and the upgrade of its equipment.
