Tunisia-Official resumption of discussions with the IMF and the LF 2022 is the first step in these talks

The Tunisian economic and financial authorities, represented by Mr Marouane El Abassi, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Mr. Samir Saied, Minister of Economy and Planning and Ms Sihem Nemssia, Minister of Finance, met on Thursday, November 04, 2021, remotely, with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr Jihad Azour, director of the Middle East and Central Asia (MENA) department.

Also participating in the meeting are, Mr Chris Geiregat, head of the IMF mission in Tunisia, Mr. Jérôme Vacher, resident representative of the Fund in Tunisia and Mr Hossein Hosseini, administrator of Tunisia to the IMF.

This meeting, which is part of the continuation of technical consultations between the IMF staff and the Tunisian authorities, concentrated on the review of economic and monetary developments in Tunisia. The meeting similarly focused on the economic reformations envisioned by the Tunisian authorities and which could be supported by international partners and in particular, the International Monetary Fund following an official request formed this week by the prime minister to the Director-General of the Fund.

The Tunisian delegation and that representing the IMF agreed on the significance of the strategic orientations adopted by the Tunisian government which will be interpreted, in part, at the level of the LF2022, able to give a solid signal to both donors and ‘Tunisian and foreign investors.

In this sense, a consensus of all stakeholders has arisen around the importance of including all national stakeholders in the conduct of these reforms.
