Tunisia-Organizations launch a national campaign to call for withdrawal of decree-law n ° 54

In a joint press release dated today, UGTT, SNJT, the Association of Lawyers, the Tunisian Federation of Journal Directors and the LTDH, condemned the legal proceedings against journalists and newspaper directors on the base of the decree-law n ° 54.

The signatories have estimated that this measure is undermining freedom of expression and press, risks putting professionals in the unemployment sector and stopping the work of the institutions concerned.

They demanded the withdrawal of decree-law n ° 54 while delivering the launch of a national campaign for this aim.

“Signatories call reporters, newspaper directors and civil society activists to combat any practice aimed at violating the right of expression and encouraging them to take part in the campaign in question.

They call on the magistrates not to succumb to the pressure of the political power in place and recollect that the commitment of legal proceedings against professionals in the sector is in accordance with decrees 115 and 116 “adds the same source.
