Tunisia – Pharmacies: Lack of several drugs for chronic diseases

The president of the national council of pharmacists, Ali Bsila, told the press that various special medicines, in particular those reserved for the treatment of chronic diseases, are missing from the shelves of pharmacies. He revealed that these stockouts are due to the fact that the global suppliers of drugs and raw materials entering into their composition decline to deliver the central pharmacy of Tunisia, which has undergone a certain delay in the payment of its debts to them.
He added that the central pharmacy, in turn, suffers from non-payment of its debts to insurance funds and hospitals. Bsila added that the extreme consumption of drugs sparked by the covid pandemic has contributed to these shortages.
