Tunisia-PM Mechichi: Government does not plan to sell state companies

Prime minister Hichem Mechichi and UGTT Secretary-General Noureddine Tabboubi held a press conference at Kasbah government Palace, following which a joint agreement was signed.

Noureddine Tabboubi said the UGTT  is open to all reformations regarding public companies, including STEG, Tunisair, and the central pharmacy as long as it does not include the divestiture of these enterprises.

He further emphasised the significance of establishing tax fairness, and of reserving grants to those who really want them.

For his part, prime minister Mechichi said the government does not plan to sell state-owned enterprises, emphasising the importance of collaboration between the government side and the social side.

He also declared that the subsidy system will be the subject of a deep reform from July and that the government will step up efforts in the battle against smuggling and in the establishment of a tax system. fair and equitable.
