Tunisia- Preparation for New Law Regulating the Breeding of Dangerous Dogs and Animals

Minister of Health, Mustafa Al-Ferjani, led a working session on Friday at the ministry’s headquarters to supervise the efforts of the mixed national committee to fight rabies. The meeting, which included representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Agriculture, and Water Resources and relevant stakeholders, focused on several key issues.

One major issue examined was a new bill related to the breeding dangerous dogs and animals. The session also discussed current preventive measures to limit the spread of rabies, stressing the need for urgent actions.

Preparations for World Rabies Day, set to be observed on Friday, September 27, under the slogan “Tunisia, a word … no to rabies,” were also emphasised. Various awareness activities are planned across different governorates in the Republic to mark the occasion.

Key agreements included the expansion of vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats through the establishment of new centers across the country. Awareness efforts will be strengthened, especially with the return of schools and universities, with the involvement of civil society in vaccination and awareness campaigns. The role of municipalities in hygiene and the management of stray dogs will be strengthened, along with the support of veterinarians and health professionals in these efforts. Additionally, there was a call to review legislation concerning the breeding of dangerous dogs and animals.
