Tunisia-President Kaïs Saïed calls for debt rescheduling and its conversion into investments

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, asked for a rescheduling of Tunisian debt during a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen on the occasion of the second edition of the Tunisia-European Union summit which was held on June 3 and 4 in Brussels.

Remarking that Tunisia is aware of the necessity to initiate profound economic and social reformations, the head of the state pointed out added the country was counting on its partners, in particular the European Union for this.

He suggested converting the Tunisian debt into investments

The Head of State indicated, in this same context, the importance of further consolidating the partnership between Tunisia and Europe, in particular in the fields of health, the empowerment of young people and women, the creation of employment, innovation and scientific research, new technologies and the fight against illegal immigration.
Mr Saïed announced that Tunisia aspired to more support from Europe to procure the required quantity of vaccine in the face of the resurgence of the pandemic Covid-19.

The President of the European Commission, for her part, reaffirmed the will of the EU to proceed to politically support its strategic partner that is Tunisia and its economy by supporting it in its strategy to increase foreign investment and sharing its expertise in the financing of small and medium-sized projects, its know-how in the green economy, education, and employability.

Ursula Von Der Leyen on the occasion declared that the European Union was ready to expand the number of scholarships granted to Tunisian students wishing to enter European universities.
