Tunisia-President Kais Saied: Organizing maritime migration secretly is a criminal act that the state cannot tolerate

President of the Republic, Kais Saied , on Sunday afternoon, paid an inspection visit to Sfax port in Sfax to inspect the readiness of the National Maritime Guard and the maritime territory of the centre in particular.

Upon his arrival at the port, the Head of State examined a variety of naval guards, intervention and special units, which gave him salutes, before he got acquainted with the various marine and land equipment available at the port. He then followed up on a presentation on maritime border protection and the accompanying strict measures.
He emphasised the crucial role assigned to the Marine Guards to reduce the phenomenon of irregular migration, and denounced human traffickers in reference to the organizers of marine immigration secretly, outlining what they are doing as a criminal act that the state cannot tolerate.
He further reaffirmed his keenness on the necessity of continuing to protect the coasts with the same determination and seriousness, while the real reasons behind the spread of this phenomenon must be addressed.
He also mentioned the importance of cooperation between different countries to search for new solutions to tackle irregular migration through a joint endeavour to provide conditions for these migrants to remain in their countries of origin.
The Ministry of the Interior had recently installed, on the authority of the maritime territory of the centre, which covers the coasts of Mahdia Sfax and Kerkennah, an air unit equipped with the latest equipment that allows the Marine Guard to monitor at night the Tunisian coast.
In particular, the visit was attended by the Minister of the Interior, the governor of the region, and the mayor of Sfax, along with a few regional and local frameworks.
