Former environment minister Riadh Mouakhar described the house arrest against him as “unfair”. He stated he is now unemployed because of this decision, evoking that he is a doctor and that his job entails him travelling to the clinic where he practices his profession.
Mouakhar said the media knew about his house arrest long before him and that he did not get “verbal notification” of the decision till August 6, 2021. He revealed that he still does not know the reasons for this decision, as well as its duration, particularly since he is not the subject of any legal complaint, that he does not represent any threat to others and that his fortune, as well as that of his wife and children, did not increase during her assumption of responsibility.
The politician called on the President of the Republic to act in the face of this “injustice”, emphasising that he has so far not resorted to the multiple international humanitarian organizations in order not to disrupt the democratic process. Nevertheless, after the rejection of all appeals against administrative decisions relating to house arrest, he finds himself forced to defend himself in order to prove his innocence.
