The floating units of the Maritime Guard district in the centre, Mahdia and Sax, as well as Navy units, saved 113 illegal immigrants after water started to leak to their boat 20 nautical miles from the coast of Sidi Mansour where they sailed on Sunday.
The migrants, 5 of whom hold the Tunisian nationality while the rest are from African nationalities, were brought safely onboard various units boats to the dock of Sfax sea before they were released.
Major Ali Ayari of the Maritime Guard in Sfax, explained that among African nationals there is 65 women and 9 children.
The same source said that many immigrants who were taken had previously been caught in an attempt to cross borders. He called for the necessity to attain practical mechanisms to confront repeated illegal sailing crimes in the ranks of foreigners.
