Tunisia – Sfax desalination plant provides 100 thousand m3 of water per day

Mohamed Zaara, the central director of the Seawater Desalination Plant in Sfax, confirmed that on September 7, the plant started its contractual experimental operation stage. The station is running with its four units, with a total capacity of producing 100,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day.

 

He added that the station’s capacity can be expanded up to 250 thousand cubic meters per day.

Zaara has revealed that the project will profit a million inhabitants, mainly in the Sfax region, and will also help relieve pressure on northern waters.

He said that the Sfax seawater desalination plant will help reduce the suffering of the inhabitants of the region so that they can satisfy good quality drinking water this time.

In the same context, he indicated that this project concerns, in the first stage,  Sfax and in the second stage, the cities of the south of the region (Agareb, Skhira and Mahres …), moreover, it will contribute to Solving the problem of drinking water in the neighbouring governorates of Sfax.

He confirmed that the cost of the project surpassed 1,000 billion dinars, through a Japanese loan refundable over 25 years with a deferred depreciation of 7 years.
