Tunisia-SNJT calls to boycott Al Karama Coalition

The National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT)  called this Saturday, October 10 called all Media outlets to boycott the work of A Karama Coalition, to commit not to contribute to the spread of hate speech and incitement to violence which threaten social peace.

It reminded of the role of the media in embracing public debate in a constructive manner, valuing the viewer, preserving peace, and immunizing society from violent speech antagonistic to freedoms in general and freedom of expression and journalism in particular.
The Syndicate remarked that the electronic accounts of each of the head of the Coalition, Seifeddine Makhlouf and MP Abd al-Latif al-Alawi, targeted journalists from various media outlets, after of their positions refusing the draft revision of Decree 116 regulating freedom of audio and visual communication, which was submitted by the coalition months ago and which is scheduled to be discussed in A plenary session in Parliament next Wednesday, October 14th.

It added that among the journalists targeted, Naji Baghouri and Hamza Bayoumi. the Syndicate announced that they are “subjected to a campaign of provocation threatening their physical safety and the aim of which is to exert pressure on journalists,” according to SNJT statement.
On the basis of what the monitoring unit of the Center for Safety at Work monitored attacks described as “systematic” by members of the bloc, the Syndicate of Journalists calls on all journalists affected by incitement campaigns,  insults and defamation to seek justice and make their legal staff available to prosecute.
The Union calls on journalists to unite in the face of attempts to undermine freedom of expression and the press.
In this context, it called on journalists to stand together in the face of attempts to undermine freedom of expression and the press and to seek a return to the square of harassment, repression, incitement, and threats to the physical integrity of journalists.
