The National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) has pointed out the recording of several breaches of professional ethics as well as the divergence of certain institutions from their role accusing them of propaganda. The SNJT further expressed its concern at the media coverage made after July 25, 2021, denouncing, at the same time, the “black-out” policy employed by the Presidency of the Republic.
As such, the SNJT evoked that this deprives citizens of their right to correct information, stipulating that the Presidency of the Republic has closed its doors to reporters, leaving the field open to the dissemination of fake information, particularly in a marked delicate situation. by the lack of other official sources of information.
Condemning the pressure exerted on journalists, the SNJT called on the Presidency of the Republic to uphold the freedom of the press and the media as well as the right of professionals in the sector to access information. ”
The presidency is therefore called upon to appoint an independent person in charge of the provisional management of the affairs of the National Radio. Journalists, for their part, are called upon to respect the rules of professional ethics and to show a spirit of national responsibility, ”the same statement read.
