Tunisia – Social Security Funds: Kaïs Saïed Calls for Urgent Solutions

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received yesterday, 12 January, at the Carthage Palace, the Minister of Social Affairs, Issam Lahmar. The meeting focused on reviewing the situation of the social security funds, particularly that of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM).

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the Head of State issued instructions to address the situation as swiftly as possible and to identify urgent solutions capable of ensuring the necessary health coverage for all insured persons, regardless of their affiliation scheme, through the National Health Insurance Fund. In this context, he stressed the importance of mobilizing all stakeholders involved in the social protection system in order to overcome existing difficulties and put an end to the suffering of citizens.

The President of the Republic also emphasized that guaranteeing the right to social and health coverage that meets citizens’ expectations is one of the fundamental human rights, considering it absolutely unacceptable to deviate from the objectives for which the social security funds were originally established.

In conclusion, the Head of State affirmed the need to develop a new vision for all social security funds, breaking with past policy choices that have led to financial imbalances, which in turn have had a negative impact on the quality of services expected by citizens.
