“A meeting with the government is expected next Monday to understand its orientations and intention to implement or not the agreements previously concluded with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Secretary General Noureddine Tabboubi said on Wednesday.
Taking the floor at the opening of the UGTT’s Administrative Committee works in Hammamet, Tabboubi specified that this meeting will focus on ways to meet the social demands amid the country’s difficult economic situation. The negotiations are expected to resume this week with the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) to discuss wage increases in some sectors while ensuring the enterprise’s sustainability, Tabboubi indicated. Besides, UGTT Spokesperson Sami Tahri stated to TAP that the UGTT’s Administrative Committee will examine the general situation in the country, notably at the political and economic levels. The worsening of the economic situation has impacted the social situation and the consumers’ purchasing power, Tahri pointed out, adding that the UGTT will not accept, under any circumstances, the burdening of the citizen with additional charges such as the increase in the basic products’ prices or the lifting of compensation. The reforms imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cannot be implemented by a government of exception, he considered. (TAP) |
