Tunisia – Teachers’ Union Calls for Filling Vacancies

The Secretary General of the General University of Secondary Education, Mohamed Al-Safi, confirmed today, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, that vacancies continue to be registered among secondary school teachers in many subjects, adding that “there are students who have not yet studied many subjects.”

He said: “The Syndicate University does not refute the rates of filling vacant positions or not,” emphasising that the best interest is that of the student, in reply to the statement of the Minister of Education on October 13, in which he confirmed that 99% of the vacant positions had been filled.

He stressed that the beginning of the school year was hesitant due to many shortcomings, including the shortage of teachers, the wear and tear of infrastructure, and overcrowding in classrooms.

Al-Safi stated that there must be a real will to announce the appointment of assistant professors, to address the shortcomings suffered by the public school and to open a serious dialogue, in his estimation.
