In a statement issued on the 28th of June, the ethical committee of National Union of Tunisian Journalists called upon journalists to abide by Journalism ethics and standards.
The syndicate urged journalists to restrain from publishing unverified information and to cease relying on social media as a source of information. Moreover, they are morally obligated to faithfully adhere to the principles and rules of professional journalism and not to merely yield to rumors advertised by non-professionals.
The syndicate attributes its reason to issue this statement due to depicting professional error related to verifying and the spread of false news that occurred during recent events.
