In an official interview to “Shems FM” head of local operations in civil protection Ghazi Al-Arabi, has reportedly stated that the recent fires that broke out in many regions have increased up to 80 %.
In striking contrast to 236 fires in 2018, fires incidents increased up to 427. Moreover, the burned regions increased tremendously from 123 hectares up to 623 hectares.
Rising temperatures, low humidity and wind intensity contributed to the local outbreak of fires and its rapid spread.
Mr. AL-Arabi stated that 500 hectares of crops were burned.
