In acknowledgement to a letter sent to President Kais Saied last weekend,El Kamour demonstrators obtained a message from the Presidency of the Republic in which it is emphasised that President Kaies Saied is personally following their movement and everything associated to the El Kamour agreement.
Protesters have been observing a sit-in Tataouine for two second consecutive week. Protesters soon began a hunger strike that resulted in severe health deteriorated.
The demonstrators attributed the desperate move to the absence of return to their needs on the application of the convention signed on June 16, 2017, by the government and the El Kamour protesters.
This convention specifies prominently the allocation of 80 million dinars for a growth and investment fund devoted to the Tataouine governorate, the recruitment of 1,500 unemployed people in oil companies and 500 others in the environment company, the continuation of the investigation into the death of Anouar Sakrafi who was run by a police car during protests on May 22, 2017, the removal of the Tataouine governor and the opening of corruption files in the region.
