Tunisia-The reference price for the sale of sacrificial sheep set at 14 DT

The reference price for the sale of sacrificial sheep will be fixed at 14 dinars per live kilo (all weights combined), at the points of sale under the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP).

This decision was adopted during a working session on Wednesday between the different stakeholders in the sheep farming sector, including representatives of the interprofessional grouping of red meats, the Livestock and pastures and UTAP,  director of the animal production unit at UTAP Mnaouer Sghiri,   told the TAP.

According to the official, this price stays “appropriate” for breeders in Tunisia and for people who desire to sell the sheep planned for sacrifice. He indicated that selling prices have risen by one dinar compared to last year (prices were fixed at 13 dinars per kilo), adding that the prices of sheep weighing about 40 kg are up by 50 dinars compared to last year. He, in this context, rejected the rumours according to which the price of sacrificial sheep will grow between 100 and 150 dinars.

He added that points of sale under the interprofessional group of red meats, the livestock office and the State Lands office, will be open. He even said that one million 500 thousand heads of sacrificial sheep will be put on the market this year. For its part, the Ellouhoum company has announced that it will begin selling sacrificial sheep by the kilo, from July 1, 2022, at its head office in Ouardia.
