The Summit will mark the launch of the African Union’s 2026 theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
Minister Nafti will also represent Tunisia at the Second Italy–Africa Summit, to be held on 13 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, which will address various issues related to the Italian–African partnership.

The 39th AU Summit of Heads of State and Government will discuss key political, economic, and security issues concerning joint African action and the future of the continent. These include, in particular, the AU institutional reform project, the peace and security situation in Africa, reform of the UN Security Council, and the African Union’s participation in the G20.

The Summit will also include the election of new members to the AU Peace and Security Council and discussions on challenges related to economic and social development, regional integration, as well as support for recovery and inclusive development processes, with the ultimate goal of strengthening continental solidarity, security, stability, and sustainable development.

Tunisia’s participation in the Summit will reaffirm its commitment to the African dimension that characterizes its foreign policy, as well as its active engagement in joint African efforts within the African Union. It will also highlight Tunisia’s contribution to promoting peace, security, sustainable development, and fruitful cooperation among African countries, while reiterating Tunisia’s firm positions on key issues on the Summit agenda, notably the just Palestinian cause.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad will hold bilateral meetings with African Union officials—particularly with leaders of the AU Commission—as well as with representatives of several regional and international organizations and major economic groupings.

These meetings will focus on strengthening cooperation between Tunisia and the AU and its various bodies, following up on issues of national interest. He will also hold meetings with counterparts from African and foreign countries to enhance bilateral relations, promote cooperation, and reinforce coordination and consultation at the multilateral level on regional and international issues of common concern.
