Tunisia-Tourism Minister Mohamed Ali Toumi calls on Belgium to reopen borders for Tunisian residents

Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Mohamed Ali Toumi asked Belgian ambassador in Tunis, Christophe de Bassompierre to interfere with his government to reexamine its resolution to extend the deadlines for the closing of the Belgian borders for residents of some countries, including Tunisia.

“Tunisia is one of the few countries that have succeeded to contain the Covid-19 pandemic,” the minister stressed at a meeting with the Belgian ambassador at the ministry’s headquarters.

For his part, Bassompierre ensured to send the request to the authorities concerned in his country, stating Belgium is considering supporting bilateral cooperation in the tourism field.

The EU Council recommended the lifting of travel restrictions from 1 July for 14 countries outside Europe, including Tunisia and Algeria.

However, the Belgian government has decided not to implement this recommendation and to further examine the list of these 14 countries, according to a note published on the website of the Belgian embassy in Tunis.
