Tunisia – Towards reduction in price of electricity bill

The draft finance law for the year 2025, which will be examined soon in the House of People’s Representatives and the Council of Regions and Districts, provides for a decrease in the VAT rate applied to electricity sales. The draft law provides for a reduction in the VAT price from the current 13% to 7% for consumers from low- and middle-income social groups whose monthly consumption does not surpass 300 kilowatts (hours). This measure will allow a reduction of approximately 5 percent in the price of electricity consumed.

This measure seeks to support low- and middle-income social groups, which represent approximately 93 percent of the total number of electricity network subscribers, and to lower the cost of household electricity consumption, which has become an additional burden on the purchasing power of a large number of citizens.
