Tunisia: Trade deficit narrows at end of january 2026 (INS)

    According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the trade deficit stood at -1,287.6 million dinars (MD), compared with -1,764.6 MD in January 2025. The coverage rate reached 80.4%, up from 74% in January 2025.

    The results of Tunisia’s foreign trade at current prices for January 2026 show that exports rose to 5,298.7 MD, compared with 5,025.7 MD in January 2025. Imports, meanwhile, declined to 6,586.4 MD, down from 6,790.3 MD a year earlier.

    The trade balance deficit is primarily attributable to the energy products group (-927.4 MD), raw materials and semi-finished goods (-433.1 MD), capital goods (-324.7 MD), and consumer goods (-27.4 MD).

    It is worth noting that the trade deficit excluding energy narrowed to -360.3 MD, while the energy deficit stood at -927.4 MD, compared with -1,078.4 MD in January 2025.
