The Fifth Criminal Chamber of the Tunis First Instance Court, specializing in terrorism-related cases, has postponed the trial of the martyr Mohamed Brahmi to February 18. This decision was confirmed by Abdennasser Al-Aouini, a member of the defense team.
Al-Aouini told the Tunis Afrique Presse agency that the defense committee for martyrs Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi has continued its suspension of attendance at hearings linked to the two political assassination cases. The committee has not presented any requests following its formal withdrawal from court proceedings.
On January 30, after an emergency meeting, the defense team revealed its decision to boycott all sessions of the trial. The committee criticized the restriction of public and media access to the hearings, arguing that this undermines the transparency of the trial and deprives the public of its right to the truth.
The defense team also condemned what they described as “unjustified haste” in conducting the trial, pressure on those involved, and the adoption of a “remote trial” procedure. They highlighted concerns over the absence of in-person interrogations, the use of audiovisual communication with the accused from detention centers, and the instability of the judicial panels handling the cases.
