Tunisia-Tunisia and U.S sign roadmap for military cooperation

Minister of National Defence Brahim Bartagi and US Defence Secretary Mark Esper, on Wednesday in Tunis, signed a roadmap for military cooperation over the period 2020-2030.
The roadmap, which defines the various aspects of military cooperation between the two countries, aims to improve the readiness and capabilities of the Tunisian armed forces to deal with security threats.
During a working session, attended by senior military officials from both countries, emphasis was placed on the prospects for Tunisian-US cooperation in the field of defense, in light of the security challenges facing the region, said a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
The U.S. Defence Secretary commended the age-long relations binding the two countries, based in particular on trust and mutual respect, reaffirming his country’s commitment to support Tunisia.
“The U.S. administration is always ready to strengthen the capabilities of the Tunisian military institution in the areas of border security, counter-terrorism and training,” he pointed out.
For his part, Bartagi praised the support provided by the United States to Tunisia in the field of border security, the establishment of an electronic surveillance system on the southeastern and western border and the strengthening of Tunisia’s military capabilities.
“The United States is a privileged partner to Tunisia,” he said, expressing the wish to see bilateral cooperation develop further in the interest of both peoples.
