Tunisia was among several countries added to UNESCO’s listings of Intangible Heritage, particularly for date palm production and associated cultural activities, UNESCO announced in a statement.

Now Tunisia date palm-related culture, traditions and practices have been listed on Unesco’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The UN body emphasised that the date palm has, for centuries, “played a crucial role in helping people face the challenges” of their environment.

In addition to Tunisia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen were attached to the Date Palm listing.
