Tunisia-Tunisia renews its support for an Independent Palestinian State

Following what circulated in the media concerning the refusal of the Arab countries to adopt a resolution on Palestine the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad confirmed that it was done in the urgent request of the delegation of the State of Palestine. The Arab project for Palestine was withdrawn by the latter

The ministry explained that Palestine has requested that the draft resolution submitted to the Council be withdrawn as a matter of urgency for failure to reach a consensus on it. It said the decision was taken at the meeting of Arab states’ foreign ministers held on September 9, 2020.

During this ministerial meeting, Tunisia reiterated its position of principle. Othman Jerandi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, underlined, in his speech on the occasion, the firm support of our country for the Palestinian cause, its absolute support for the brother Palestinian people, and standing by its side in the struggle to obtain their legitimate rights.

These rights recognized by Tunisia are, let us remember, to decide its own fate and the creation of its free, independent and sovereign State on the lands occupied in June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In the same context, Tunisia called for the need to involve the Palestinian side in any initiative aimed at finding a settlement to the Palestinian question as a precondition for ensuring a just, lasting and comprehensive solution in accordance with United Nations resolutions and Arab League resolutions, in particular the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
