Tunisia-Tunisia wins membership on Unesco’s executive board

Tunisia has acquired a seat executive board of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, where it will serve until 2024. Tunisia will sit on this governing body of UNESCO alongside the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Minister of Culture Mohamed Zine El Abidine led the Tunisian delegation to the 40th session of Unesco’s General Conference. The delegation comprised of Permanent Ambassador of Tunisia to UNESCO Ghazi Ghrairi, the National Heritage Institute (INP) director Faouzi Mahfoudh, Agency for the development of national heritage and cultural promotion “AMVPPC” secretary-general Mehdi Najjar and the international cooperation and external relations at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs director Faika Aouini.

The executive board of Unesco includes 58 member states selected by the Unesco General Conference. It convenes twice a year to address the purposes and objectives of the UN body, setting guidelines for its policies and strategy.

The board provides the agenda for the conference and presents the organisation’s programme and budget estimates, which are proffered by the director-general to the conference along with recommendations.
