Tunisia-Tunisia wins two prizes in 2020 Mario Solinas Quality Award

Tunisia won two prizes at the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition 2020 Mario Solinas Quality Award of the International Olive Council that witnessed the participation of 157 oils from member and non-member countries.

The awards ceremony was carried by VTC as part of the celebrations of the first birthday of the creation of the World Olive Day by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the council said.

The contest intends to choose among the participating extra virgin olive oils those with the most excellent organoleptic properties.

This year, the oils were listed in one of the following five categories: Intense green fruitiness, medium green fruitiness, mild green fruitiness, ripe fruitiness and extra virgin olive oil from the southern hemisphere.

The Bechir Jarraya oil mill in Mateur was bestowed the 2nd prize in the ripe fruitiness category and the Olivko oil mill in Tunis won the 3rd prize (ripe fruitiness).

The Domaine Fendri in Sfax and the Compagnie Générale des Industries Alimentaires (GOGIA) were finalists.
