Following the tragic accident in the district of Jalma and the delegation of Ghalaiqia, which resulted in the demise of a second woman in a truck transporting female agricultural workers, Maidani Daoui, the head of the Tunisian Union of Farmers, has highlighted the urgent necessity for legislation permitting farmers to use qualified trucks for transporting female agricultural workers.
In a statement to Tunisie Numérique on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, he underscored the significance of providing safe and suitable vehicles to secure the well-being of workers during transportation. Nevertheless, he lamented that their proposal for such a law has not received a response.
Furthermore, he highlighted that most accidents implicating female agricultural workers happen during transportation provided by rental services, rather than by the farmers themselves. He reiterated the call for the provision of transportation options that prioritize the safety of female agricultural workers.
