Tunisia under influence of deep low-pressure system bringing winds up to 100 km/h

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, environmental and climate expert Adel Hentati commented on the weather alert issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) regarding strong winds that may reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.

According to Hentati, the strong wind episode began two days ago, as Tunisia remains under the influence of a deep low-pressure system originating from the North Pole. The system moved across Spain, then Morocco and Algeria, before reaching Tunisia.

This atmospheric disturbance has resulted in varying rainfall across regions, accompanied by strong winds caused by pressure differences, as well as rough sea conditions.

Regarding the forecast, Hentati explained that some meteorological models indicate that the current conditions may persist through Friday and Saturday, with a possible extension into Sunday in certain areas.

Other projections suggest that the low-pressure system’s effects could continue into early next week.

The expert urged citizens to closely follow official weather bulletins issued by the National Institute of Meteorology and to take necessary precautions, particularly in areas known for strong winds.
